The Republic could be a significant player in the world of e-commerce and, as the only English-speaking state in the euro zone, would have an advantage over other countries, the Minister for Public Enterprise, Ms O'Rourke, said yesterday. Global e-commerce was likely to be worth more than £200 billion within two years, she added. Speaking at a Law Society of Ireland and PricewaterhouseCoopers breakfast on telecommunications, Ms O'Rourke said a blueprint for the future designed to ensure the Republic's role as a European hub of e-commerce was due next week.
