Lingerie retailer, Ann Summers posted a pretax loss of €80,025 at its Irish unit last year compared to a pre-tax profit of €748,447 in 2010.

Accounts filed by Ann Summers Ireland (Retail) Ltd for the year ended June 25th, 2011, show that revenues at the company dipped by 9 per cent from €3.3 million to €3 million.

A loss of €275,146 on foreign exchange movements in the 2011 financial year compared to a gain of €154,682 in 2010 contributed to last year’s loss.

Since opening its outlet in Dublin’s O’Connell Street in 1999, the company has retained accumulated profits of €3.1 million, the accounts show.

The filings show that the firm’s cost of sales marginally increased from €651,327 to €663,840 with the firm’s administrative expenses increasing from €2.1 million to €2.2 million.

The company recorded a gross profit of €2.36 million compared to €2.67 million in 2010.

The numbers employed by the company last year fell from 34 to 30 with staff costs reducing from €559,312 to €526,365.

The two directors of the companies are Jacqueline Gold and Vanessa Gold.

Jacqueline Gold has been chief executive of the business since 1987 and today Ann Summers operates more than 140 stores in Ireland, the UK and Spain.

The retail chain’s O’Connell St outlet in Dublin opened in 1999.
