Stock prices fluctuated again in New York yesterday and ended lower, unable to shake off growing worries about inflation that were fed by cautionary remarks from Federal Reserve Chairman, Mr Alan Greenspan.
The Dow followed the same path it took in Wednesday's session, changing direction several times.
It fell as much as 103 points during afternoon trading yesterday before regaining ground. Broader market indicators also were mostly lower.
Advancers outnumbered decliners by a narrow margin on the New York Stock Exchange, where volume came to 873.7 million shares, down from Wednesday's pace.
The NYSE composite index was down 4.32 at 633.05, and the American Stock Exchange composite index was up 2.32 at 787.81.
