Suir Nore Relays, a small cable company based in the Tipperary-Kilkenny region, has received £1.7 million (€2.15m) of EU funding to develop its cable infrastructure in Clonmel and Kilkenny. Awarded under the EU's Economic Infrastructure Operational Programme, the funding accounts for nearly half of Suir Nore's required capital investment for its infrastructure upgrade.

Mr Peter Glynne, Suir Nore Relays IT and product development manager, said the investment will provide Suir Nore with sufficient bandwidth to develop audio and video applications for e-commerce and online education. One of the requirements of the funding will be the provision of high speed communications to the wider community.
