SILICON VALLEY:THE SECOND annual Irish Technology Leadership Group (ITLG)/ Irish TimesInnovation awards were held in Silicon Valley last month, with Powervation winning the Company of the Year award and OpenHydro recognised in the renewable energy category.
Powervation has designed a chip technology that enables electronic devices to improve efficiency by 10 per cent. OpenHydro designs and manufactures underwater turbines that generate power from tidal flows.
Powervation and OpenHydro were presented with their awards by Tánaiste and Minster for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Mary Coughlan.
Ms Coughlan complimented the ITLG for strengthening relationships between Silicon Valley and Ireland, which she said were vital for a "smart economy" in the Republic.
Executives from the winning companies and the other five shortlisted companies - Lincor Solutions, Firecomms, Ammado, WaveBob and CustomerMinds - attended a three-day programme of mentoring in Silicon Valley.
Founded in 2007, the ITLG is a group of Irish and Irish- American technology executives. Its next major event will take place in Queens University, Belfast in October.
