Sony VPL VW90ES 3D projector

If you need something with a little more punch than a 2.4 inch display or a TV screen, the latest projector from Sony might fit the bill. The VPL 90ES is Sony’s first 3D home projector and can project in full high definition or 1080p. Using Sony’s Iris 3 technology, the projector has a high contrast ratio of 150,000:1, meaning you will get some high quality images.

It also uses the same active glasses that Sony’s 3D TVs use, so you won’t suffer from the dark picture that other firms of 3D video suffer from. It can also simulate 3D images from 2D pictures and is being pitched as perfect for gamers.

An important factor that is often overlooked is the fan; the VPL 90ES has a low noise fan that will not interrupt quiet movies and ruin the atmosphere. Available from November.

Aiptek 3D HD camcorder, €242

The number of mini high-definition video cameras available at the moment is enough to make your mind boggle. Aiptek may not be as much of a household name as other electronics brands, but this camcorder might be worth a look.

Not only does it do high-definition video, but it also promises to deliver 3D video. Sure, it requires the old red and cyan shades and a bit of conversion to view it on a computer but the camcorder itself has a 3D filter built in to its 2.4 inch display, so you can view the video as it was intended straight away.

You can also hook it straight up to a 3D TV, should you be lucky enough to already own one. It also takes regular still photographs and has a rechargeable battery that will give you up to 1.5 hours of recording time.
