IDENTIGEN, THE DNA technology company backed by Paul Coulson’s Yeoman investment vehicle, has won a multimillion-dollar contract to supply a beef traceability system in the US.

The contract with Performance Food Group (PFG), a premium beef supplier, will see Identigen’s DNA TraceBack system being applied to beef served in 11,000 US restaurants. It will aim to give diners a guarantee of the origin of premium Angus beef, which PFG sells under the Braveheart Black Angus Beef brand.

“This is a landmark contract for Identigen, the revenue value of which will be tied to the success of Braveheart Black Angus, which is currently enjoying double-digit growth in the food service market that PFG serves,” said Ciaran Meghen, Identigen managing director.

Identigen’s technology will be used to assure consumers that the Angus beef originated in the US midwest and was fed on corn.

The technology backing the PFG deal was developed in Dublin and the contract is expected to help secure and generate jobs here.
