Ryanair on iPhone

The low-fares airline we love to grumble about has brought out an iPhone app. You can search for and book flights, manage your booking and check arrival and departure times, all for the princely sum of €2.99. Notable by its absence is the option for mobile check-in – there's still no avoiding the €60 fee for printing your boarding pass at the Ryanair desk. It's worth noting that Aer Lingus has a free app ( iti.ms/ThQy7C) that allows you to check in as well as search for flights.

In a week’s time the new iPhone 5 will make an appearance. There’s only one thing for it: flog your old smartphone. There are, of course, plenty of websites that offer roughly the same prices for second-hand phones, but this one gives a sizeable percentage to the Jack and Jill Foundation. And if you want to earn more money, you can choose to accept payment in the form of a One4all gift card. For example, you can get up to €244.88 for an 8GB iPhone 4S and in giftcard format it’s bumped up to €269.37.

Dailylit

RSS feeds aren’t so popular any more. I wouldn’t go as far as to say that RSS is dead but Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms are doing the job of filtering and serving us our favourite blogs and news updates. “Read later” services such as Instapaper and Pocket are great at curating interesting articles. Here’s one quirky and useful implementation of RSS: Dailylit.

Use this to subscribe to a book and have a section delivered daily via RSS at your chosen time for a fast way to get through your reading list.

Serendip

Forget writer’s block – every time I go online to listen to music I get listener’s block. The sheer choice of tunes out there can be overwhelming when all you want is the digital equivalent of your friend showing you what records they bought at the weekend. Serendip scours your Facebook and Twitter friends’ links to bring you what they’ve listened to lately. It’s a bit of an aural palate cleanser, but if some of your mates have dodgy taste in music, you can opt to mute them.
