There are people in the world for whom the approach of the millennium means little. Religious Jews and Muslims, for example, work off different calendars to the one set by the Christians. And the last remaining cannibal tribe, whose members live naked in the trees above the Irian Jaya river in New Guinea, is said to be quite blase about the Y2K computer bug.
But the rest of us are either quietly chuffed at the prospect of outlasting the current millennium, or filled with dread that every microchip will seize up, plunging our world into darkness.
Either way, what could be more useful than a small, yellow clock stuck to the top of one's terminal, not using the 24-hour system, but displaying at any moment the exact number of days, hours, minutes and seconds remaining until the year 2000?
When it finally reaches midnight on December 31st, the little clock plays "Congratulations" and then displays the message: YEAR 2000. It can then be reset to count down to other important occasions such as the introduction of the euro notes and coins (2002), or Manchester United's winning of the European Cup (2003, 2004, 2005, etc).
The MilleBug, £14.99 (€19.03) plus P&P, (corporate discounts available), is available from Emtek HSS, on (1850) 20 10 20, or (01) 2950414.
Company logos can be printed on the front of the MilleBug.
