With a chunky microphone that can be set at three different modes changing "sensitivity" and "directionality", the Sony MicrocassetteCorder comes in a refreshing design that gives it ergonomic appeal and, some would say, aspirations of being a Camcorder. A retractable stand allows it to be placed on a table while you pace up and down the room delivering brilliant soliloquies. Alternatively, set it to "meeting" mode for those essential group sessions, or, at the "lecture" level while you hide in the back row. Using standard microcassettes, this dictaphone comes with a cue marker, cue and review and pause functions. It also provides the dedicated user with FAST PB (playback) 20 per cent faster than normal playback and VOR (voice operated recording). Other standard features are a tape counter, an earphone jack and a three-level battery indicator giving a guide to remaining power on two R6 batteries. All in, a nice little toy.
The M-100MC recorder retails for £69.99 and is available from Hi-Fi Corner, Aston Quay, Dublin, and all good hi-fi shops.
