A deal secured by IJM Timber Engineering with a US company to export timber frame houses and buildings will create 100 new jobs in Monaghan, it has been announced.
The deal with Harvey International, a leading US manufacturer and distributor of windows and exterior building components, is worth $45 million (£29.8 million) over 10 years.
The deal involves both companies exporting the timber frame houses to Germany and sharing some personnel. Harvey International will supply the components to be used in the manufacture of the houses.
Mr Sean McCaughey, chairman and managing director of IJM, said the deal, plus the company's recent £1 million capital investment, meant IJM would build on the "threefold growth of the past three years and continue to develop new markets both locally and internationally".
IJM already employs 210 people at its 200,000 sq ft factory just outside Monaghan town and is the Republic's largest timber frame manufacturer.
The two companies are also co-operating on a contract for a housing development in Germany worth £2 million.
