Passenger numbers at Aer Lingus increased by 1.4 per cent to 811,000 in April.
This increase was driven by an 8.2 per cent rise in long-haul passengers, coupled with a 0.7 per cent up-tick in the number of travellers taking short-haul flights.
The airline’s passenger load factor rose to 72.7 per cent in April, which represented a 2.8 per cent increase when compared with the same month a year earlier.
Last month also saw the carrier’s regional passenger numbers jump by 27.4 per cent to 79,000.
This morning Aer Lingus also announced the appointment of Ravindra Simhambhalta as chief technology officer. Mr Simhambhalta will have responsibility for leading the information solutions and services team.
Mr Simhambhalta has experience in the aviation industry, having worked with Virgin America. He also spent a year in Dublin in the 1990s working with GE Information Services.
Most recently, he worked for Tesla Motors as vice president of information technology. He takes up his position in June.
