US Airways plans to operate a daily service to Philadelphia next summer. There will be daily flights between May 23rd and September 3rd, operated using a Boeing 757 aircraft.
The flights have been loaded into the US Airways booking system but, as of yesterday, the fares had not been published.
The flight will leave Philadelphia at 9.15pm, arriving into Shannon at 8.40am. It will then leave Shannon at 11.35am for the return flight.
This is the second recent transatlantic route gain for Shannon. Last month, US airline United announced plans to fly direct from Chicago to Shannon from June to September.
These positive route announcements come as plans to separate Shannon from the Dublin Airport Authority gain momentum.
It is understood that the Department of Transport is working on a paper to seek Cabinet approval by the end of this month to separate the authorities by the end of this year.
Both the Shannon and Dublin authorities are thought to have transition plans in place and to be ready to separate by December 31st.
Union advisers are believed to be reviewing the separation business plan at present.
