Conduit chief executive Mr Liam Young said yesterday he had received confirmation from Oftel, the British telecommunications regulator, that a decision had been taken to proceed with the introduction of competition in the UK directory inquiry services market.

But, in a statement welcoming the decision, Conduit said a formal announcement on deregulation of the market would not be made until September.
