VISUnet, one of the earliest pioneers of the Internet in Ireland, will discontinue its Web development service from the end of this month. While existing clients contracts will be maintained, VISUnet will no longer engage in redevelopment work or new projects. Instead the company will focus on content provision and the ongoing development of its highly successful flagship online community, The Virtual Irish Pub (VIP).

The VIP has proven extremely popular globally, gradually building up an extremely loyal and consistent fan base. Drawing on the experiences gained from the VIP, other communities have been developed by VISUnet based on the VIP engine. VISUnet has also taken steps to deliver its virtual community to the real world via a number of VIP gettogethers. To date more than 20 such events have taken place globally, resulting in new friendships, business relationships and at least four weddings.
