With the strapline “pin your history to the world”, the Historypin website invites users to post historic pictures over their locations in Google Maps.

Although Streetview is needed to make it work – it isn’t expected to launch in Ireland until year-end – it’s still fascinating to browse historic pictures of famous landmarks around the world.

Games characters invade New York

Pixels is an amazing demonstration of just what can be achieved with relatively low-cost computer-based production tools. Director Patrick Jean creates a short video of old-school computer game characters invading downtown Manhattan and turning the city to pixels. Whether its Donkey Kong dropping casks from the Empire State Building or Space Invaders firing at taxis on Broadway this clever film is hugely enjoyable.

Super Mario World on your iPad

If you are lucky enough to have an iPad and an iPhone, and tech-savvy enough to have jailbroken both, you can now install a Nintendo SNES emulator on the iPad which you control with your iPhone. The rest of us can just marvel at this video which takes us back to the 90s, and wonder would Nintendo have the sense to release this itself.
