The chair shown here is one of a pair of Louis XV walnut-framed provincial fauteuils included in a house contents sale taking place this weekend at Goffs in Co Kildare. On this occasion, instead of being offered at auction, all the 300-odd lots have been given a price by the vendor; in this instance, the fauteuils with needlework upholstery are priced at £8,000.
There are a number of other interesting items included in the same sale, with the highest price being assigned to an Anglo-Indian three-door wardrobe dating from the 1830s and carved in high relief with a profusion of foliage decoration; it carries the figure of £48,000. An early 20th century suite of limed bedroom furniture in the Louis XVI, including a bed, pair of armoires, dressing table and two cabinets is priced at £28,000 while a mid-19th century Irish carved mahogany cabinet costs £25,000 as does an 18th century mahogany tripod table on triple-scroll legs.
Viewing at Goffs today, the sale itself begins tomorrow at 11 a.m.
