Cork 2005: This year's Beamish Cork Folk Festival opens at 8pm at the Everyman Palace on Friday September 2nd with Liam O'Flynn and the Piper's Call Band plus The Four Star Trio, while Ger Wolfe and the New Skylarks play at 9pm at An Spailpín Fánach, and the Festival Club takes off at the Everyman Palace bar at 11.30pm.

Seamus Creagh with a fiddle class at the Spailpín Fánach at 11am and Matt Cranitch with a lecture at the Crawford Gallery at noon give Saturday an academic tone, although the Saturday programme also includes Altan, Freddie White and Bronagh Gallagher and a variety of others.

Variety is the key-note from then on, with gatherings such as a tribute session for Tomás Ó Canainn, and performers including Ciaran Ó Maonaigh, Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, Tommy Cunniffe, Gus McLoughlin, Les Pierres Noirs, Carlos Nuñez (left), Márta Sebestyén with Muzsikás, and dancers Zoltan Farkas and Ildiko Toth.

Venues range from the Sportsman's Bar to the Opera House and the City Hall, and the festival also gets involved with the Cork 2005 Céilí Mór on September 10th.
