The ex-Royal Shakespeare Company General Manager, David Brierley, has filed his consultants report on the Abbey Theatre, and rumours of its contents have reached this desk. It seems that the report comes down heavily in favour of the theatre bringing in an Executive Director, who would oversee the running of the company and become a Mr/Mrs Abbey.
It is not yet clear what position is taken on the Abbey being funded through the Ministers Department as a national institution, but clarifying this position seems to be seen as a priority. The report also supports the idea of the shareholders voting themselves out of existence, in order to institute a company limited by guarantee. It also warns, it seems, that careful planning must attend any re-building plan, which would also mean the company would have to move to another theatre for a period of years.
