Major drawing show selected from the National Collection of Contemporary Drawing. Limerick City Gallery Offsite, Istabraq Hall, Merchants Quay Mon-Fri 9.30am-5.30pm Until July 30 061-310633
The National Collection of Contemporary Drawing has been housed in Limerick since 1991. It was initiated and gifted by the Limerick Contemporary Art Society. At that point, it numbered 23 works by 23 artists. It’s grown since, now standing at 198 works by some 113 artists. And they make up an impressive roll-call, including Janet Mullarney, Cecily Brennan, Donald Teskey, Colin Harrison, Anne Madden, Jim Savage, Tom Fitzgerald, Ciaran Lennon, David Lilburn, Sam Walsh, Nick Miller, Brian Maguire, Anita Groener, Walter Verling and many more. Now these artists mentioned, and others, feature in a show of work selected from the collection.
It’s notable that Limerick boasts a strong group of graphic artists, whether from the city and the region or resident there now, which makes it an appropriate home. The exhibition anticipates the City Gallery’s move back to its enhanced and refurbished premises in Pery Square.
