The Contemporary Art strand of the Interior Design Fair was a great innovation when it appeared at Art ’08. Vitally, all the major commercial galleries rowed in behind the venture, which hadn’t happened with any other attempts to stage an art fair in Dublin.
Economically, alas, things are not as they were in 2008, but almost all of the galleries are in this year’s fair. Imma director Enrique Juncosa, in launching the event, noted the importance of gallery representation for artists, particularly younger artists. Sales are also important, not just for the artists but for the whole sector.
Given the times that are in it, there’s a subtle emphasis this year on affordable art forms. It is, besides, a terrific opportunity to see a huge range of contemporary Irish art in one convenient venue.
