Given the year that was in it, Mermaid contacted 25 Irish artists and invited them to respond to one of legendary American investor Warren Buffett’s pithy observations on the way finance works. Buffett, one of the wealthiest people in the world, also noted that no one ever sees a bubble happening because it’s in the nature of bubbles that they are mass delusions. He’s also expressed his liking for the tobacco industry in very pragmatic terms, pointing out that cigarettes cost next to nothing to produce, are expensive to buy and are addictive.
A host of artists, including Aideen Barry, Felicity Clear, Jennifer Cunningham, Clodagh Emoe, Vera Klute, Sean Lynch, Mark Clare and many more have taken on the challenge of coming up with an image to match Buffett’s metaphor.
