Among the several unique connections forged by Cork's year of cultural supremacy is that between the new maternity wing at Cork University Hospital and the only slightly less new Glucksman Gallery at the University itself.
Guided by Glucksman director Fiona Kearney, the university is lending some of its resident art collection (including Michael Mulcahy's Ganga Shrine 2, right) to the hospital for an exhibition which was formally opened last Thursday. Although the new €50 million wing will not be functioning until next year, the exhibition was described by Kearney as a perfect way to visualise the links between UCC and the hospital, in a city exploring new sites for the arts. The exhibition opens to the public on October 15th, 10am to 4pm.
