Mahogany dining table, figurines make top prices
David Herman of Herman & Wilkinson tells us that their auction on Thursday, May 14th was well attended and most lots were sold privately. A Victorian mahogany rectangular dining table reached the highest price of the day at £2,000, closely followed by a pair of Victorian glazed pottery blackamoore figurines at £1,800.
A mid 19th century mahogany, leathertopped writing table made £860 and an Edwardian mahogany and satinwood display cabinet went under the hammer for £850.
Balloon-backed dining chairs sold for £1,120
In spite of the heat last Tuesday, a good number of purchasers made their way to the fine art and furniture auction at Adams in Blackrock, Co Dublin. Top prices of the day included £1,120 for a set of Victorian mahogany balloon-backed dining chairs, £980 for a Victorian mahogany dining table and £800 for a Victorian mahogany long-case clock. A Georgian Irish silver sugar bowl made £950 while a 19th Century Sizendorf-style table was knocked down for £1,300.
