Victorian dining table makes £3,000
A packed auction room at Adams of Blackrock saw £3,000 paid by a private buyer for a one-leaf Victorian extending dining table last Monday. Two Victorian mahogany three-door bookcases, of the same design but different dimensions, sold for £2,700 and £2,650 respectively, and another private buyer spent £1,240 on an art deco burr maple and walnut drinks cabinet with glazed interior. Among the silver lots, the following figures were achieved: £1,250 for a Georgian rococo coffee pot; £1,000 for a George III silver bowl by James Le Bas; £740 for a matched set of six bright-cut dessert spoons; £660 for a Limerick tablespoon by Samuel Johns; and £580 for a set of 11 Cork teaspoons.
£4,900 for dining table and chairs
Private buyers were also seen in abundance at Mullens of Laurel Park on Monday, when another mahogany extending dining table, this time with a matching set of 10 single chairs, made £4,900. A yew wood bowfront secretaire bookcase sold for £3,200, a pair of oval gilt mirrors made £2,600 and a continental gilt console table fetched £1,500.
Both a mahogany sleigh bed and a French giltwood suite sold for £1,000, while £960 was paid for a pair of Victorian sofas and £950 for a mahogany sideboard.
Mahogany dining chairs are sold for £3,000
A set of 12 Regency-style mahogany dining chairs were sold for £3,000 at Town & Country's auction on the premises of Carl Geisler in Merrion Square last Sunday. Both a Victorian-style extension dining table and a 19th-century mahogany bookcase fetched £2,050 and £2,000 was made by a two-seater sofa and upholstered chair.
A Regency giltwood compartment mirror made £1,200, as did an upholstered sofa, while a George III mahogany circular three-tier dumb waiter sold for £1,180 and a Regency-style giltwood wall mirror fetched £1,150.
