Flourgirls, the dough dolly makers in Skerries, Co Dublin, have published a beautiful picture book recounting the tale of their first dough dolly in print and for the iPad. Available as a free download from the Apple iBook store from today, it’s the first in a series that tells the story of the six main characters in the Flourgirls collection (Róisín, Áine, Éilís, Peig, Niamh and Úna) and their adventures by the sea.

Made of flour, salt and water, the Flourgirls are 25cm (10in) tall dough dollies, handmade and baked for 12 hours each to make them last a lifetime. You can buy a Flourgirl of your own on their website or at one of the Christmas fairs they’ll be attending.

Flourgirls will be in Dún Laoghaire tomorrow at the Irish Craft festival in the Royal Marine Hotel and the Séamus Ennis Centre in Naul, Co Dublin, on Dec 16th.
