The Dublin Catholic diocese is organising a prayer service for the healing of all those who have been abused physically, mentally, emotionally or sexually in St Andrew's Church, Westland Row, Dublin tonight at 8 p.m. To mark the occasion and to provide a place where people can reflect and pray, a rose bed will be inaugurated after the service in Archbishop Ryan Park, Merrion Square, Dublin.
Brainwave, the Irish Epilepsy Association, is offering places on "Planning My Future" - a full-time, pre-employment training programme specially designed for young people with epilepsy. All aspects of career guidance and self-development will be covered in a supportive setting. There are no fees for this six-month course and no loss of benefits will be incurred. A training allowance and a bus pass will be provided. The next programme starts at the beginning of July in Griffith College, Dublin and will cater for 15 people. Voluntary Service International (VSI) is looking for volunteers interested in working on projects in Ireland, Europe (east and west), US, Australia and North Africa. VSI's projects focus on anti-racist and ethnic minorities, Third World solidarity and peace movements, people with disabilities and with children. It is a great opportunity for people to make a positive contribution to communities while experiencing different cultures. The time commitment could range from 10 days to three months and volunteers should be over 18 years old. There will be a meeting with advice and a question and answer session on diabetes on Sunday in the Senior Citizens Day Centre, Chapel Lane (off Main Street), Swords, Co Dublin at 3 p.m. The speakers are Sister Sheelagh Wickham, a diabetic nurse specialist in Beaumont Hospital, and Stan Pike, a specialist insurance consultant.
Camphill Communities offers those in need of special care a sheltered environment in which their educational, therapeutic and social needs can be met. On Wednesday the community is holding its annual fundraising plant sale and coffee morning in the Camphill Community, Ballytobin, Callan, Co Kilkenny from 10 a.m. to noon. There will be a range of herbaceous plants, bedding plants and shrubs as well as morning coffee, cake stands and raffles. Donations of plants and cakes are very welcome, tel 056-25114.
