How do you travel to work? Mainly by DART, from Grenageary to Pearse Street. Occasionally, I take the car if I have a late function, and from time to time I take the bus from Stillorgan, if I go for an early-morning swim on my way to work.
How long does it take? Door to door, 40 minutes, provided I get the timing right in terms of trains.
What time do you leave home? Usually before 7 a.m., to catch the 7.05 a.m. DART. At that time, I usually get a seat. If I left later, I'd be standing all the way into town.
What time do you get back? I leave the office between 6 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. and am home by 7 p.m. If am going on to a Dublin Chamber of Commerce evening function, I take my car to work, as the trains are less frequent at night.
What do you enjoy about your commute? Commuting by public transport is more relaxing and predictable, although there are delays form time to time. On the train, I can read items for work, the newspaper or a book, rather than having to concentrate on driving.
What bothers you most about your commute? One of my pet hates is how there is no proper integrated ticketing between buses and trains.
How could your journey be improved? There could be more user-friendly stations and better ticket facilities, such as automatic dispensers. Transport is a big issue for the Dublin Chamber of Commerce, and our transport committee is completing a series of short-term measures which, if implemented, will ease the flow of business and commuter traffic.
