How long does it take (to get there, to get home)? After almost five years of using the service, I can safely say that it can take anything from one and a half hours - which the "Enterprise" is expected to take - to three and a half. Breakdowns on the tracks and bomb scares are the main reasons for delays. My all-time record nightmare journey is over five hours - due to a bomb scare.

What time do you leave home? I have a 10-minute drive to the station at Portadown to catch the 8.27 a.m. train, which is due into Dublin at 9.50 a.m. I travel to Dublin two days a week and divide the other three weekdays between working from home and looking after my three children, Ultβn (4), Aoife (2) and Laoise (10 months).

I also avail of the earlier train, which leaves Portadown at 7.17 a.m., when possible. This train also serves Newry, Dundalk and Drogheda.

I say "serve", but in reality there are no seats after Dundalk, and the Drogheda commuters are treated appallingly, the majority left to stand for the entire duration of their journey or forced to sit in the carriage aisles.

Indeed, I've been on this train when it has also doubled up as a DART service. "How many Irish people can you get on a train?" "As many as you feel like. No one cares."

What time do you arrive back home? I catch the 4.50 p.m. train (which can often be late for half an hour plus) from Connolly Station to Portadown and arrive back anytime between 6.20 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Do you travel the same route every day? I only travel to Dublin two days a week and work from home the other three days. However, I have friends and acquaintances - from brickies to accountants - who do a daily commute.

I can only marvel at their mental strength in putting up with a very stressful journey.

What do you enjoy about your commute? When the train arrives and leaves on time.

What bothers you most about your commute? When it doesn't. When it doesn't. When it doesn't. Also, overcrowding can be a problem, delays of any sort and a lack of information as to the reason for those delays and how long it will take to clear them.

Would you change your mode of transport if you could? No, it's a three-hour drive, which would be too long.

How could your journey be improved? If the train service were more reliable.
