THE Bishop of Dromore, Dr Francis Brooks, has issued a statement confirming that a complaint of child sexual abuse has been made against a priest in his diocese.
It is understood that the allegation against the Newry based priest was made to the church authorities in September.
Dr Brooks said the diocese had "clear guidelines in place and these are being followed in responding to this complaint. The civil authorities are aware of the complaint. The priest in question denies the allegation. I am concerned to safeguard his legitimate rights". It is understood that the priest was suspended on administrative leave two weeks ago. It is believed that the allegation concerns an incident which took place more than 10 years ago.
