The US ambassador, Mrs Jean Kennedy Smith, was quoted in yesterday's editions as saying "the parties [to the peace process] themselves have taken primary credit for this [discussion of outlines of a potential settlement], but I think history will record that President Clinton and his administration have played a major part". This should have read that the ambassador said the parties themselves should take primary credit.
