Mr James Yates
"An Irishman's Diary" published on August 15th, 1998, made reference to a letter published on August 10th from Mr James Yates concerning the President of Ireland's non-appearance at the Nations' Cup event of the Kerrygold Horse Show. The diary implied that the author of the letter had uttered falsehoods about the RDS, was intolerant of others and was of a primitive form of tribal identity.
The Irish Times accepts that Mr Yates's letter did not contain falsehoods and neither did it indicate that the author was intolerant of others or was of a primitive form of tribal identity. The Irish Times regrets any embarrassment that he may have experienced from the publication of the diary and unreservedly retracts the implications contained in it.
Where errors occur it is the policy of The Irish Times to correct or clarify as soon as practicable.
