Dublin has its own Necropolis, although you may not have thought of it as such. Glasnevin Cemetery, which opened in 1832, is the final resting place of many famous - and infamous - citizens. Meet at the main gate at 2.30 p.m. on Wednesdays for a free guided tour (01-8301133).

Nighlight

Ballyshannon will be ringing to the sounds of the best of folk music this weekend, with Sharon Shannon (above), De Dannan, Stockton's Wing, Beginish, Joe Burke and Anne Conroy, Iontas and special guests from as far away as Bulgaria. The Folk Festival begins today and runs until Monday.

Justlight

The past returns to Inistioge, in Co Wicklow, on Sunday with a vintage rally. Dozens of classic cars, motorbikes, tractors and engines are expected to make it a good day out for everyone. Entertainment will include a duck derby on the Nore and frog dancing.
