THE GLIMMERS
DJ Kicks !K7
***
What have the Belgians ever done for us anyway? Well, they sure know how to throw a party. Along with Soulwax's 2 Many DJs, the Glimmers are Belgians with the line to the finest in messy, mixed-up electro-disco beats and breaks. Tunes that could be one thing or another have been the stock-in-trade of Benoelie Fouquaert and Mo Becha ever since they joined forces as schoolboys behind the decks at a Ghent bar. Older and perhaps wiser now, the emphasis is still on fusing sounds from whatever's lying around. For their DJ Kicks turn, it's disco that is turning heads, but it's a loose definition which has ample time and berths for everything from a funky-punky Bis new-wave attack on A Certain Radio's Shack Up to the gloriously hypnotic swing of Kerri Chandler's Disko Satisfaction. Freaky dancers in the audience have just landed a new soundtrack. www.k7.com
