Fat Cat's 130701 micro-imprint is home to the label's more orchestral and instrumental works, a post- classical hitching post for strung- out dreamers, improvised music- makers and moody contexualists. There have been eight albums from four acts on 130710, and this is a user-friendly sampler to those works. Of the acts here, German composer Max Richter is perhaps the best known, thanks to his album The Blue Notebooks, which was rich in vivid detail and cinematic reach. Elsewhere, prepare to swoon to the haunting chamber-rock of Set Fire to Flames (a mass ensemble from Montreal's underground community featuring members of Godspeed You Black Emperor!, Fly Pan Am and A Silver Mt Zion), the beautifully framed piano treatments of Volker Bertelmann aka Hauschka, and the elegant minimalist of French composer Sylvain Chauveau.
