CARIBOU
Andorra City Slang ***
Responsible for a mighty fine electronica album, Start Breaking My Heart, under his previous moniker Manitoba, Dan Snaith's subsequent strikes after an enforced name-change to Caribou have always been hugely intriguing. Here, on the follow-up to 2005's The Milk Of Human Kindnessalbum, Snaith is still eager to show that he can tweak melodies in unexpected ways to create a fascinating clatter of sound, but he uses a wider, larger canvas on this occasion. On Andorra, Snaith's Brian Wilson infatuation and his freak-folk movements bump the listener again and again as he pulls a number of dreamy pop swingers like Melody Dayand Sandyfrom his bag. The psychedelic edges and flourishes with which Snaith happily embellished previous work have been tied up and now inform rather than dictate such lush harmonic tracks as After Hoursand She's The One. www.caribou.fm Jim Carroll
