REEL NEWS:Keith Allen, the reliably eccentric actor and roustabout, has arrived in Cannes to flog his documentary on the death of Princess Diana.
Unlawful Killing, the result of three years of obsessive labour, will screen tonight away from the official competitions. Particular controversy hangs around Allen's decision to include a paparazzi photograph of the Princess taken in her dying moments. The director went "undercover" at the inquest and claims that he has unearthed horrifying details of a cover-up.
" Unlawful Killingis not about a conspiracy before the crash, but a provable conspiracy after the crash," Allen says. "A conspiracy organised not by a single scheming arch-fiend, but collectively by the British establishment – judges, lawyers, politicians, police chiefs, secret services, even newspaper editors – all of whom have been appointed to their positions because they are 'a safe pair of hands'." Lord knows what The Daily Express, official organ of the Diana conspiracy movement, will make of it all.
