Stephen Frears, director of two Roddy Doyle adaptations, savours any opportunity to work in Ireland. He will soon be returning to shoot a film of Martin Sixsmith’s nonfiction book The Lost Child of Philomena Lee: A Mother, Her Son and a 50 Year Search. Dame Judi Dench stars as an Irish woman who spent half a century searching for the child she was forced to sell to a wealthy American couple. Steve Coogan plays the journalist who assists her. The Dame’s mum was Irish, so the accent should be up to scratch.
