Irish five named for Toronto

Once again the Irish Film Board is able to announce a healthy presence at the upcoming Toronto film festival

Once again the Irish Film Board is able to announce a healthy presence at the upcoming Toronto film festival. Five films funded by the body will play at the event, which kicks off on September 9th.

The lucky pictures include Risteard Ó Domhnaill's The Pipe, a documentary about the Corrib natural gas controversy; Tom Hall's Sensation, a fascinating tale of sex and sleaze; Juanita Wilson's As If I'm Not There, a drama shot in Macedonia and Sweden and starring Stellan Skarsgård; and (one of several co-productions) Dome Karukoski's icy feature Lapland Odyssey.

Most intriguingly, Jerzy Skolimowski, the Polish director of classics Deep Endand The Shout, returns with a political thriller called Essential Killing, starring Vincent Gallo.

Eclectic. See tiff.net/thefestival.
