The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences – the body that votes on the Oscars – included a few Irish folk in its latest list of fresh inductees. Visual effects supremo Richard Baneham, animator Darragh O’Connell and, still only 16, Saoirse Ronan have now joined the great and the good. There was also good news for Bono. Hopefully the letter from Ampas will offer him some compensation for missing Glastonbury with his dodgy back.
