Chairs take a front seat for Adam sale

Next Wednesday morning's auction in the James Adam salerooms abounds with chairs, singly or in sets. Among the Irish lots, for example, there is a set of five William IV rosewood, balloon-back dining chairs (estimate £800-£1,000) and a single George I fruitwood-framed dining chair (£700-£900).

Non-Irish lots in this category include a pair of George III hall chairs with painted crest centres (£400-£600), a set of six George IV mahogany-framed library chairs (£2,000-£3,000), a pair of similar chairs from the same period (£700-£1,000) and a set of 10 Victorian mahogany balloon-back dining chairs (£2,000-£3,000).

However, chairs are not the only items being offered for sale on this occasion. Also worth noting is an Irish George III mahogany turf bucket (£1,000-£1,500), an Irish George IV mahogany serpentine-front sideboard (£2,000-£3,000) and an Irish Victorian yew centre table by Arthur Jones & Co of Dublin; its frieze below a moulded rim is decorated with carved trailing shamrocks and foliage (£4,000-£6,000).
