Irish silver to feature strongly
Irish silver features strongly in next Tuesday's sale at Adams of Blackrock, Co Dublin. Among the lots of particular interest in this part of the auction are a George III plain silver bowl made in Dublin in 1818 by James Le Bas (estimate £1,000-£1,200) and a silver chalice made in Dublin in 1839 (£500-£600). An early 19th century Dublin water jug (£600-£800) is also included in the sale, as is a George III silver sauceboat from Dublin (£600-£800) and a set of 12 fiddle-pattern teaspoons from Dublin, 1810 (£600-£700). Among furniture in the same sale is a pair of Victorian mahogany three-door bookcases (£3,000£5,000), a Victorian mahogany extending dining table (£1,200-£1,600) and a set of eight Hepple-white-style mahogany dining chairs (£1,200-£1,500).
19th century rosewood chiffonier on offer
An early 19th century German figured rosewood chiffonier is expected to make £2,000-£2,500 when it comes up for auction next Tuesday at the Mullen Bros salesrooms next Tuesday. A four-piece art nouveau oak and copper bedroom suite carries an estimate of £700£1,000, a William IV mahogany twin pedestal sideboard of £600-£900 and an 18th century oak two-door armoire of £400-£600.
House contents go under the hammer in Clontarf
Town & Country has a house contents auction in Clontarf tomorrow when a mahogany dining table is expected to fetch £1,600-£1,800, as is a set of six mahogany cabriole-legged chairs and a Chippendale-revival mahogany display cabinet. Estimates for other lots in this sale include: £1,400-£1,600 for an Irish Chippendale-style mahogany mask hall table; £1,200-£1,400 for a 19th century French parquetry side table; and £800-£1,000 for a Victorian walnut two-door bookcase.
New York showing for Irish collection
A collection of Irish pictures due to come up for sale in Dublin next December goes on show this weekend in New York. The James Adam auction is being held in conjunction with both Bonhams of London and Doyle's of New York and features a large number of Jack Yeats's oils with estimates ranging from £25,000 to £150,000. There are also several Yeats's watercolours including one with the apt title A Sidewalk in New York. In addition, the sale features an Osborne portrait, several works by Paul Henry and one example each from Sean Keating, Percy French and Nathaniel Hone.
£1,200-£1,500 expected for grandfather clock
R.J. Keighery is holding an antique clearance auction in Wexford on Monday, when lots coming under the hammer include an inlaid grandfather clock and a Victorian mahogany dining table and leaf, both with the same pre-sale estimate of £1,200-£1,500. Other lots in this sale: a Victorian mahogany sofa (£600-£800); a Georgian linen press (£700-£900); a carved oak monk's bench (£500-£700); and a decorated gilt overmantle (£400-£600).
