Dining table carries highest estimate

This month's furniture and fine art auction at Drum's of Malahide takes place next Thursday at 7 p.m. in the company's own New Street rooms. The highest estimate on this occasion is carried by a Chippendale tradition mahogany dining table and set of 10 chairs (two of them carvers), the entire lot expected to fetch £2,000-£3,000.

Both a Victorian two-door cabinet bookcase with arched glazed doors in the upper section and a marble-shelfed mahogany hall stand attributed to Strahan have the same pre-sale estimates of £500-£700. Meanwhile, a 52-piece, bird pattern dinner service by Myott & Sons should make £300-£400, the same price as a number of chests of drawers on offer.

Belfast house's contents for sale

The entire contents of a south Belfast residence come up for sale at John Ross & Co at noon today. The most outstanding lot here is a pair of Irish Georgian semi-elliptical side tables in the manner of William Moore and dating from 1790; these are expected to sell for £15,000-£20,000, considerably more than the £1,200-£1,500 estimate for a small Georgian mahogany secretaire chest of drawers on bracket feet.

A Georgian crossbanded mahogany sideboard with brass gallery has a pre-sale estimate of £3,000-£4,000, a Georgian small bow-front mahogany chest of drawers crossbanded with satinwood of £1,500-£1,800, a pair of Georgian brass trivots of £800-£1,200, and a 19th century oval brassbound wine cooler with original liner of £900-£1,200.
