On many occasions while playing Farming Simulator, my subconscious kicked in and I absent-mindedly tried to steal a parked car. But no, the GTA in this case would stand for Gainful Tractor Action. You're responsible for everything on a virtual farm; ploughing a field (or hiring help), balancing books, buying/selling machinery, etc. It's stubbornly mundane and tragically user-unfriendly, with tricky controls, achingly slow progress and tiny onscreen text. To be fair, it is bursting in detail, from weather to crop prices, but it really should be more fun. It's a lovely idea: recreating the satisfaction of farming without having to go outside or lose your home, like Theme Park or Sim City with the added joy of watching crops change with the seasons. But paperwork, dragging a vehicle round a field and aligning trailers with harvesters are few people's idea of fun. There's a reason why management games remove the drudgery.
