Numerous journalists, including this one, have pointed out that one of the reasons for illegal downloading is TV companies’ inertia when it comes to legitimate streaming and downloading. FilmOn Live TV HD tries to redress the balance.
Astoundingly, this app is free. It streams live programming from channels you’d know, such as Bloomberg and ITV2, and ones you don’t, including Jewish Life TV, My Combat Channel and Jewelry TV, among many others, ranging from sport to music channels. You can even watch Jedward in Big Brother on Channel 5.
Film4 is especially welcome, as are the blissfully ad-free BBC1 and BBC2. Not all of the channels will be worth watching, of course, but, as with real TV, the choice is in your hands.
It uses Wi-Fi, which is pretty handy, and the picture and speed are satisfactory: nice and clear with no lag.
Providing you have the appropriate device, this should cut down on the traditional household TV arguments.
