This will send many gamers back to their childhood memories of spending too much time in arcades, little hands stinking of sweat, grubby machines and coins. For younger readers this crude 2D combat game has one or two players hacking their way through an evil army of ogres, giants, skeletons and thugs. There's a dash of magic you can use, if you kick the right elves and steal their potion (that never sat right with me). It's fun to play
Golden Axewithout having to pump coins in every few minutes, but it does show its age, especially with its short running time and inaccurate collision detection. But the setting is fun. With memorable monsters and combat on the backs of giant fish and birds, it's a perfect candidate for another reboot. Those who weren't around for Golden Axe might find it too primitive, as it's most appealing as a visit down Memory Lane.
