Apple’s video editing software is a convenient, if slightly limited, way for you to edit your home movies on the move. Designed to work with video shot on Apple’s iOS devices (the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch), the mobile application allows you to cut, add sound effects, titles and other extras to your home movies. You can record directly into the application, choose a previously shot video from your camera roll, or add still images into the mix. And once you’ve chosen your images, sound tracks can be added, either by using the ones included in the app or tracks stored on your device. Because the app supports multi-touch, editing is a breeze. Dragging will cut movie clips in length. On the iPad you have access to a precision editor, to make more specific changes within your movie footage. Once you’re done, you can upload in high definition to video-sharing websites such as YouTube and Facebook. However, there is a problem with adding video not shot with one of Apple’s devices. iMovie would work so much better if it allowed you to edit video shot on other devices without having to jump through several hoops to make it compatible. But this is Apple’s software and one must live by Apple’s rules, no matter how frustrating they may be.
