The last time I was in the Tate Modern, I saw a child sitting on a bench among the surrealists. He was engrossed not with the incredible art around him, but with a portable gaming device. Maybe he was the inspiration for this amusing little mobile game. You play a chameleon who escapes a lab. Running past familiar paintings (beautifully recreated), your job is to collect colours while avoiding villains inspired by the era. When you're killed by an "earthquake cocktail", for example, it informs you it was the tipple of choice for Toulouse-Lautrec; if an African mask kills you, onscreen text then says "Cubists were heavily influenced by African art".
Race Against Timewas created to promote the Tate, so it's a chance to take a crash course in modern art history, while also playing a jaunty videogame. You'd hardly know that it's essentially an ad.
