12 cert, Ubisoft, PC Simulation games, whether they're airborne or underwater, were never exactly my first choice of entertainment. But Silent Hunter 5was a bit of a revelation.
The franchise, which has sold almost 1.5 million copies, offers something extra: you take on the role of a German U-boat captain during the second World War, going up against Allied Forces in the Atlantic and Mediterranean.
The appeal of SH5is that you get into the thick of it with your menand experience what it's like to be in the thick of battle.
The user interface has also been upgraded, perfect for those new to the series but advanced enough to allow more expert players take control of the sub. Graphics are impressive, with some good effects for explosions.
This sub sim is not perfect – online reports tell of some bugs, and the DRM isn't winning it any fans. But iron out the bugs with some updates and
SH5is a solid sim that could win over some new fans to the genre.
