Such is the state of our sad, quiet lives, we hadn't realised condoms are now such a valuable commodity. Still, they obviously have sufficient value to merit rating as a special gift with purchases of the new Ted Baker fragrance. The English designer, best known for his line of shirts, is the latest to produce a skincare line, called Skinwear ("the only thing that should come between you and your ted."). There's a shaving oil and gel, post-shave balm and moisturiser as well as eau de toilette and aftershave. The fragrance - a rather heady mix of lemon and lime blended with the likes of cypress, juniper and rosemary - is now available at Boots and other selected outlets. Prices start at £25 for the eau de toilette - and, of course, you get a free condom.
Designers Ciaran Sweeney and Elaine Curtis, who have already been working together on joint presentations this season, are staging a show of their work tomorrow at Vicar Street, starting at 7 p.m. Held in aid of the Chernobyl Children's Project, the occasion not only features Sweeney's and Curtis's clothes, but also music from Gerard Whelan of An Emotional Fish, model Natasha Byram, and other (as yet unrevealed - at least to us) guests, with Mari O'Leary acting as MC. Tickets costing £12.50 each are available from the Design Centre in Dublin, tel. 01-6795718.
What designer Claire Garvey is calling "a combination of fashion and art" will be staged later this month at the Crypt Arts Centre in Dublin Castle. Aside from knitted and crocheted items of clothing, Garvey plans to show wall hangings which can be worn as coats or shawls, dresses with matching lamps, "fashion accessories which double as lights" and even a fabric Christmas tree with matching evening coat - no doubt there will be a big demand for the last of these. The exhibition runs from November 23rd to 30th.
